Yes, choose one from these two, you will never go wrong. Personally I will choose Highlander. The exterior design looks more curve than Pilot. The interior design is better two. The more import thing is the Highlander has slightly larger space for 3rd-row seat than Pilot does.
Toyota Highlander and Honda Pilot are most people's choice. You can also consider the Acura MDX FWD base trim, it is not hard to negotiate the price to below $40k.
You can also consider the Hyundai Santa Fe or Kia Sorento, they have 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain, 5-year/60k mile bumper-to-bumper warranty. However, the Santa Fe/Sorento's refinement are not as good as the Highlander.
