Today we are invited to Mazda USA’s R&D center to experience the refreshed 2017 Mazda 3.
The mid-cycle facelift is mainly on exterior/interior styling: the front grille is wider and bigger, which makes the small car’s front face to be more menace.
The interior also receive some revision, most noticeable is the steering wheel.
Mechanical-wise, the only enhancement is the introduction of new driving assistance feature called “G-Vectoring Control”. The culprit is quite easy to understand: when you are starting to make a turn, the ECU will reduce the engine’s torque output, therefore shifts the vehicle’s dynamic center of gravity forward, and increasing the front wheel’s traction, which contributes to the car’s cornering handling; when you almost complete the turn, ECU will increase the engine torque back to normal level to maintain acceleration.
Highlights of major changes:
- Exterior styling (wider/bigger front grille, bigger headlight assembly etc.)
- Interior styling change (center console, steering wheel etc.)
- Optional LED headlights
- Added electric parking brake
- G-Vectoring Control
The 2017 Mazda 3 will arrive in dealership showroom in September, pricing has not been announced yet.
